Shame – The exceptional duo that birthed Hunger returns with another powerful force about Sexual addiction. The film forces you into a world filled with sexual truths that mainstream American audiences shudder even speaking about. The film’s ambiguous nature and subtle emotions provides the audience with an experience left up to interpretation about man being lost in his own world. I found the film to be exquisite and beautiful, even if the subject at hand was raw and truthful—that is what made the film excellent for me. Its truth had this pull where the situation was so realistic, it makes you uncomfortable. We form a sense of recognition: either we are the characters or know others who are like the characters; it’s an aspect that force-feeds a subject we subconsciously try to ignore. Personally, I feel that speaking about the film’s details would ruin the whole cathartic experience, so I’ll keep this general.

Due to the sexual content, some audiences may consider this film borderline pornographic. I, however, feel that this film shows sex as an important element to the film than for some sort of shock factor as others may perceive. The atmosphere of the entire film was dark, bleak, and beautiful—which is excellent in exhibiting Brandon’s (Michael Fassbender) personality. The acting was absolutely perfect and top-notch, and the filmmaking is gorgeous.

Although the subject is crass, and the scenes are vulgar, all is necessary in the immersion of this real world we’ve shut out to. I often feel that the Shame is actually on the Audience’s part for us being so sensitive to the subject of sex and lust, that we’re unwilling to accepting a film that we could identify with. It’s a pity that this film was Oscar snubbed, but when you’re ready for a challenging experience, be sure to check this film out.

I rate this film 10 necessary vulgar scenes out of 10.

ambidextrious:

Before Watchmen (Watchmen2) is now official and I yelled out: “Can’t you just leave it to its former glory?!” And DC comics whispered, “No.”

As much as I love Brian Azzarello (writer of 100 Bullets, Joker), and Darwyn Cooke (writer of Parker (Graphic Novel)), I can’t help but feel this is just desecrating to the genius that is Alan Moore. Why? No Reason.

This film is the most difficult movie to critique; I’ve never felt so torn before. One side of me says: “This film succeeds in its target and we’ve been forewarned.” And the other side says: “What in living fucking hell did I just watch. Wait, what the fuck? Who the fu—”

I think the left side of my brain just collapsed. Anyway, onto my attempt of a review of Rubber.

Want to be completely stupefied, ridiculed, and get time-robbed? Then this is the film for you. The repetitive message that’s conveyed is: “No Reason.” I understand that it’s a huge essential theme to the film, but the amount of “No Reason” circumstances become overwhelmingly nauseating to the point of me nearly smashing my flat screen in with my own tire.

The film had the semblance of a pretentious Terrence Malick fanatic, who believes he could record the miniscule details of a tire and call it a masterpiece. At first, I was accepting of such grandiose cinematography and style, simply because I was warned ahead of time; after 50 minutes in, I nearly curled up into a ball with my eyes rolling to the back of my head, like a victim from The Ring.

On paper, I feel that this story/plot had a very unique concept but once it was caught on camera, spending minutes upon minutes of inane shots of the same object, I just wanted it to end.

It’s a clever style and plot, but way too pretentious for my taste.

I’d rate this film 4 “What in God’s fu—” out of 10. Please, only watch if you’re daring. I’d rather scissor off my eyelids. No offense Quentin Dupieux.

Maybe his newer film, Wrong, will be better.

I need to see this freaking movie. I read the book, and thought it was awesome. However, I’m the only person I know that wants to see this. Someone take me!

We Bought A Zoo (2011) Review

Yay, We Bought A Zoo! ^-^. Alright, well, I wasn’t that enthusiastic, but at the moment of watching this film, I was in a non-depressing mood unlike the day I saw The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Alright, so we all know that this film was geared toward the younger crowds, and the biggest problem with this was that it wasn’t that successful at it. I won’t lie, this film made my heart tingle with how adorable it was, but my brain was trying to shut out most of it because I’ve never really enjoyed zoos. Maybe I have a bias, or some deep underlying family complex that caused me to despise anything happy. I don’t know.

Enough personal ranting, let me stick with the film.

This heart-warming comedy, based on a true story, was nonetheless your typical, cliche, feel-good movie. The little girl is adorable, Scarlett Johannson is your love interest, and Matt Damon is an emotional wreck. Same deal, same circumstances. From the trailer alone, we as the audience were not surprised by the story, or of any of the circumstances; but what the film does well is tell the story in a cute fashion.

This whole film definitely goes to the little girl, Maggie Elizabeth Jones. Each time I saw her I wanted to pinch her cheeks and give her every animal I could. Yes, I fell in love with the child, but sadly the children in the theater did not. I thought that this film would be geared toward kids of a similar age, but what I found was half of them snoring and the other half kicking chairs. Sadly, that’s the price for trying to have a better story than entertaining comedy.

In general, I felt that this movie could have gone better if it were geared for more adults, but the true story has a definite child-like dream to it; so in my opinion, I thought it was an adorable film, but not a great one. I’m sorry I couldn’t go into greater detail like my previous reviews, but I didn’t feel a lot for this movie.

I would rate this 6 “OMG, SHE SO CUTE” rants at the theater, out of 10.

Thanks for reading. <3

Or maybe just Rooney Mara. Point is, I honestly enjoyed this movie.

Hello everyone! Long time, no — write. I’ve had the urge to just write about this film after watching it because of the everlasting effect it’s had on me, so here’s my review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

WARNING: There may be one spoiler in this review, but I feel that this details a well-known fact of this film.

——-

(Props to Shrubz on Movie-list website)

There’s one word to describe the director, David Fincher, and that’s Perfectionist. His latest film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, invokes with great animosity and astonishing cinematography the brutality of crimes against women and the dark and vigorous world we get thrown into. This sultry Mystery Thriller is another notch on Fincher’s belt of noir, but this cannot be deemed perfect even with the film’s precision to the themes.

The translation from Film to Film, or even Novel to film, had lost details on its venture. Although the plot is the same, the story in itself has been minutely altered; so all hardcore fans of the novel or the Swedish film, might be slightly disappointed with the results. However, this does not stop the film’s admiration for the themes of the novel and if approached with a refreshed mind, it’ll come to a surprise for all.

The film in itself was certainly an experience. What this film does brilliantly is capture the moment for Lisbeth Salander’s (Rooney Mara) driving force, for which we all know is the rape scene. I won’t go into the particular scene, but as a film buff, seeing numerous of movies about rape and horrid fetishes, this film actually left a bad taste in my mouth. With such a feeling inflicted on the audience, we can’t help but connect with the character and immerse ourselves into the film.

Due to this realism and connection I found myself not intrigued about Mikael Blomkvist, or the mystery of the serial killer, but just wanted to watch Lisbeth Salander malevolently stride the streets and attack more men. She was the main character to the film, therefore everything else becomes inconsequential to this film. That’s where I see the major flaw to this film.

All in all, I still find this movie to be quite excellent in being thematic, but as a remake or a novel-based film, not really.

Therefore I’d rate this film 8 sexy Rooney Mara’s out of 10; Remember to accept this film as its own entity to enjoy it.

I remember going in with a specific mindset. Not to judge it too critically since Marvel films have been slacking lately.

However before I talk about the rating etc, AFTER the film was over, there was a 15-20 second trailer for The Avengers! The audience cheered and roared, but I found it to be quite dull and lame. As an avid reader of comics (Meaning I own over 1400 issues of comics dating back to the 60s-70s) I was disappointed by the trailer. Sad Face :(

But anywho, ONTO CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!!

REVIEW: I f***king hated it.

Hereafter Film Review: It was Here, then out of your mind After.

Aside from horrific puns, this film was not clever nor spectacular, it just felt like a long, unnecessary story.

The film Hereafter is directed by Legendary Clint Eastwood, and I can assure you that this film is one of his weakest ones. This film is right down there in the cobwebs along side Space Cowboys… Oh God…

Read More to you know… Read more and stuffs… Yeah… if you want… idk.

DIRECTION: Yes, Clint Eastwood is definitely a talented director, he knows exactly what he wants and how it’ll look. The film was quite pretty to look at in terms of cinematography and shot styles, and of course the music was spectacular as well, however the problem doesn’t lie with the direction. I felt the problem was within the

WRITING: It was quite an entertaining story from the beginning. The movie starts with a tsunami disaster, killing numerous of people etc, however the movie soon declined from then on, and ultimately became a completely pointless film at the end.

SYNOPSIS: This film is about 3 separate people, going through life with death and witnessing the ‘hereafter’ effect. ‘Hereafter’ is a sort of place where one goes upon immediate death. It isn’t heaven, it isn’t hell, and it isn’t limbo… It’s just, there… Matt Damon is a sort of “communicator” of the dead, and he is in fact, not a phony lol. Cecile de France is a reporter who was caught in the tsunami and actually dies for a few minutes and witnesses the ‘Hereafter’ personally, but suddenly she is revived and recalls the experience. Finally, the last story is of twin British boys who witness a close relative’s death and search for a way to communicate with that person.

REVIEW: At first, the story was quite intriguing, but after about 40 minutes of the movie jumping around to each storyline, became quite annoying and pointless. I didn’t find the film enjoyable at its last moments but it did not leave me hating the film. I can only say I would give this film a

5 what the hell did I just watch out of 10.

:( Sorry, Clint, big fan but maybe next time.

Not so Happy Viewing

Joe Hill brings on another hilarious and gritty series

Alright alright. Let me get this clear, this is NOT the same ‘The Cape’ that was a tv show and had a cancellation for apparently, and I quote (not my words), “sucking ass”. Nope. Nein. Nyet.

So here’s my review of The Cape

So a couple months back or so, I was paying my weekly visit to the comic shop to pick up my monthly issues. I came across the cover of an issue shown above. I was intrigued and I do quite enjoy Locke and Key, so I figured “Hey, what the hell, let’s try this out.”

This issue was a Single Issue. Meaning this isn’t number 1 in a continuing series, it meant this is the first and ONLY issue of this story arc. What surprised me even more was the fact that this issue was already Eisner nominated for being a Single Issue.

ALSO BONUS INFO: This issue/story is based on Joe Hill’s actual short story he’s written. This short story is too included in the issue… all 20 something pages. Gotta check it out.

Click read more (for those who follow me) for more information, like a review… and some news about the comic’s future… and crap… Idk. just read more, DO IT. CLICK IT.

REVIEW: To my surprise, this sole issue was jam packed with excellent story-telling. It’s one of those rare issues where not one second was dull, and the reader NEEDED to know more. It brings a hilarious and dark realistic intake of superhero comics. However, since it’s only a single issue, one can’t delve into the Synopsis and expect to come out the other end clean of spoilers. Therefore I sincerely apologize for my inability to provide one. However if you’re a comic enthusiast I have some polite statements to say.

“Get your ass off of this computer, and get the hell into your nearest comic shop. I’m not kidding, go get this comic, you’ll thank me and kiss mah feet.”

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE: *ahem* Sorry for the outburst. However, the issue is a couple months old, so finding a new crisp copy may seem a bit more difficult than a new release. HOWEVER, there’s still hope! I bring up this comic to you today because just yesterday (New issues releases on Wednesdays), The Cape #1 was released.

WHAT :O GASP NO WAY. Yes folks, it is now a confirmed ongoing series. So while you’re at the comic book store, go pick up #1 of this series. Who knows, if it becomes a TV show, the issue might be worth 500 dollars just like The Walking Dead #1 did. And I still slap myself today for picking up the 2nd printing rather than the first.

Anyway, this is what the issue looks like:

Yeah, there might be some variant covers. I myself picked up a Variant cover, but picking this issue up is a very very good idea. It delves deeper into the storyline that was introduced in the original Single “one shot” issue. Just.. go pick it up… do it.

Happy Reading,

I realize that I’ve actually been avoiding tumblr for quite some time, and I sincerely apologize :(. I’ve managed to obtain more followers during my inactivity, and now I feel even more guilty for not paying attention to this bloggy thingy :P.

I feel like this Tumblr blog is that adopted unloved child in a dysfunctional home. But hey! at least I’m apologizing now <3

So yeah, I’ll keep on writing some more reviews for fun and hopefully more people will keep reading it :P.

So thanks for sticking by loves; I’ll end my apology here and if you care to read on as to what I’ve been up to, it’s going to be below the line :).

-TristansMind <3

Alright so, catch up time over the past few weeks.

A) I’ve started other blogs: one for my life, taking pictures etc… More like a diary for myself, not for the public technically :P… And one for my Short Stories, I’m trying to get them published but first exposing them to the public so I could get some critical feedback and all those wonderful Goodies <3

B) Reading a lot rather than film watching. I’ve read Hemingway, Fitzgerald (Not Crazy Zelda :P), Kazuo Ishiguro, Joe Hill, Nabokov… the list goes on… Point is, nothing much has come up in the film world :(.

C)Ah it was my birthday on the 17 of July. Had a lot of things going on, Gambled for the first time, drank [with the family] for the first time ;). And no I did not win, instead I stuck my 60 dollars into the Roulette table, won 20 dollars, GOT REALLY EXCITED, Bet more… Lost all 60 Dollars. Left the casino in a pissed off mood. THE END :)

Yeah… Pretty much sums up the important, non-personal events to occur. See you guys on the other side, and happy Viewing :)

So, Blockbuster isn't absolutely Dead in my Heart.

Earlier this week I discovered that Blockbuster is doing a “Thank you Customers”deal. Rent one 2.99 movie, get a free 1.99 rental for free every day (limited time only). So now I’m going crazy over rentals and watching movies outside of Netflix’s Watch it Now borders.
